The Los Angeles chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO-LA) announces that it has launched a completely revamped website in order to enhance the organization’s ability to communicate and collaborate with its membership and to attract new members.

NAWBO-LA represents the largest women-owned business community in the country, and is committed to the success and growth of the the Greater Los Angeles Business community – a region where over 509,000 women-owned businesses reside. The women-owned business community is the fastest growing segment in the economy, with such small businesses creating two out of three new jobs.

The new website was designed by Citrus Studios, which is owned and operated by Kalika Yap, a NAWBO-LA Board Member and V.P. of its Education Committee.  Yap was also the recipient of the organization’s Rising Star Award in 2010.

The website is the first in several new initiatives that the organization will be rolling out this year, including a NAWBO-LA Blog that will be accessed through the website and its first entrepreneur’s conference, Innovate 2 Own – I2O, an all day conference which will take place on September 24, 2011 at the Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.

Here’s the Calendar of Events:

Our founder and CEO, Kalika Yap, will be serving as a panelist at the upcoming Connecting Women to Power Business Conference on March 30th!

She will be specifically participating in the break-out session entitled Branding Matters: Leveraging Technology to Market Your Business.  Approximately 700 conference attendees are anticipated.

The Connecting Women to Power Business Conference is being sponsored by the California State Board of Equalization, California Educational Solutions (CES), and the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO).  It will bring together leaders from corporations, government agencies, and strategic partner organizations to explore ways of positioning women entrepreneurs to thrive in today’s global and ever-changing business climate.  Women who own their own businesses, or aspire to do so, will have a chance to build key connections while getting the latest on industry trends and discovering how to propel their businesses to the next level.

All proceeds from this conference will be used to provide low income and uninsured women access to breast cancer screenings that can be life-saving.

Jane Wells, CNBC Correspondent, wrote an article about Friday’s NAWBO-LA luncheon.

Here’s an interesting fact: LA is the single largest market for women-owned businesses

Honoree Caroline Nahas had this advice for entrepreneurs:

“If you can’t believe in yourself then it’s very hard for people to believe in you,” and “Don’t dismiss or discount how much of an impact all of us can make. You don’t have to be the CEO, you don’t have to be the president, to make an impact on someone else.”

Business owner and honoree Lizanne Falsetto talked about the inspiring advice her father gave her:

“If you don’t get butterflies and you don’t have passion,” he told her, “step away, because you won’t want it bad enough.”

Words about team work from honoree, and business owner Paula Schneider:

it’s important for leaders “not to treat their employees like, ‘Oh, they’re lucky to have a job.’ No one is lucky to have a job. You’re lucky to have good employees, and, you know, when the job market opens up, those people you treated like ‘they were lucky to have a job’ are gonna be lucky to have a job somewhere else. It’s all about the people.”
